Abdullahi Sends No. 4 Men’s Soccer to MAC Commonwealth Championship Semifinals with 83rd Minute Game-Winner

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Freshman Harun Abdullahi buried a shot off a pass from classmate Duncan O'Connor in the 83rd minute to lift the fourth-seeded Arcadia University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over fifth-seeded Alvernia Monday night in the MAC Commonwealth Championship Play-In Game. The win advances the Knights to the semifinal of the conference's postseason tournament for the second straight season.
 
FOR THE RECORD:
  • The Scarlet and Grey improved to 12-4-2 on the season
  • The Golden Wolves fell to 10-9-1
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Arcadia controlled possession early, with four shots and five corner kicks over the opening 13:34
  • Senior Bradley McKim broke the scoreless tie in the 34th minute when he headed a cross from junior Ryan Hammer to the short side
  • After Alvernia tied the game in the 65th minute, the Scarlet and Grey returned the pressure as Abdullahi headed a shot off the crossbar on a corner kick leading to a shot by senior Kameron Bush that had to be knocked away by a defender off the goal line in the 74th minute
  • Abdullahi's game-winner came off a pass from the end line from O'Connor in the 83rd minute
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Arcadia outshot the visitors 20-14 on the night, including 9-5 in shots on target.
  • The Knights took 10 corners to Alvernia's six
  • Senior Chris Watson made four saves for Arcadia
  • McKim led all players with six shots, including four on goal

  • This was the first MAC Commonwealth postseason win for Arcadia over Alvernia
